Power Ranks

Students in the lab rise through 23 ranks, from Wire to DC Grid Master, with finished projects, papers, prizes, help at events and thumbs up. Every month the lab names a Power Player.

23, from Wire to DC Grid Master

This week

Everyone with a thumbs up this week, Monday to Sunday, most first. A name appears as soon as it gets its first one; the board starts again every Monday and each thumbs up also adds 1 XP to the total.

The live board loads from the lab’s thumbs-up counter. Meet the team

Power Player of the month

At the end of each month the lab names one Power Player. The prize is a mention on the lab’s LinkedIn page.

The lab names a Power Player at the end of every month.

Standing this month

All XP earned this month, most first: thumbs up, and finished projects, help at events, prizes, papers and titles dated in it. It only suggests a winner; the lab names the Power Player.

The standing loads from the lab’s lists.

All-time ranking

Every student of the lab, active and alumni, by all the XP they ever earned. Alumni keep the rank they reached while they were in the lab. Mentors and the founder do not compete.

Wall of Fame

Pick a year to see its XP board, all XP earned from January to December, and the titles the lab named. This year has twelve frames, one for each Power Player of the month with the Monthly Wildcards under it, and a golden frame for the Power GOAT.

The Wall of Fame shows every Power Player and Power GOAT the lab has named, in photo frames, once the page has loaded the lab’s list.

How to earn XP

Only real work counts: what the lab’s own lists hold.

XP per kind of work

Your total and your rank add up all the XP you ever earned. The boards each count one period: This week only the thumbs up given that week, the month standing all XP earned in that month, and the year board all XP earned in that year. Work that is dated by year only (a paper from 2023) counts in that year but in no month; undated work counts in your total only.

Every student in the lab takes part, unless they ask the lab to leave them out. Alumni keep the rank they reached while they were in the lab: work dated after they left does not count, and they get no new thumbs up. The year boards show them with what they earned in each year.

Fair play: thumbs up go to active lab members who take part, one per visitor per person each day, with a short puzzle in the browser before each one and a daily limit per connection. The counts only suggest a winner; the lab confirms every title by hand.

Mentors: the lab’s staff, researchers and lecturers guide the students and do not compete. They have no rank and are never on a board, and their team card and profile say Mentor. The lab’s founder does not compete either.

DC Power Pack

One free pack a day, with five cards: three energy and component cards with a fact each, a Bronze lab member and a mystery card, mostly Silver, sometimes Gold, now and then a Hyper rare mentor. Collect the whole lab in your binder. Just for fun: cards give no XP.

Tear it open, then turn the cards over from left to right. The last one is the mystery card: it waits face down until the four before it are turned. Press a card that is face up to see it large. A new pack is ready every day at midnight (Amsterdam time); this browser keeps count.

The pack opens with JavaScript, which is off or still loading in this browser.

Your binder

Press a card to see it large. Kept in this browser only; nothing is sent anywhere.

The lab’s students, mentors and founder fill this binder.
